GREENSBORO, N.C. – July 17, 2019 – Today Proficient Health, an information technology company specializing in the secure exchange of referrals and other protected healthcare information, announced that David Hoover, MD, a practicing pediatric surgeon, is joining the company as its new chief medical officer.

Hoover is a founder of MD Interconnect, a company specializing in mobile communication solutions for healthcare providers. Separately, today, Proficient Health announced its merger with MD Interconnect.

“David is passionate about the role technology can play in improving healthcare access and delivery,” says Robb Hutchison, CEO of Proficient Health. “We look forward to having him on our team and know his work will benefit both our company and the healthcare organizations we serve.”

Hoover helped to found MD Interconnect in response to a critical challenge faced by physicians – how to connect the right healthcare provider at the right time to ensure the best possible patient outcomes. In his new role with Proficient Health, he will continue to drive technology innovations that address the pressing needs of the healthcare industry.

“I’m excited to be joining Proficient Health as its chief medical officer,” Hoover said. “It has always been a passion of mine to find new ways to connect healthcare providers so they can improve care delivery. I look forward to working with the team at Proficient Health and with my healthcare colleagues to bring those solutions to life.”

Hoover is director of Pediatric Surgery Outpatient Services at WakeMed Children’s Hospital and will continue in that role. He previously directed Outpatient Specialty Services for Pediatrics at Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital, part of Carolina Health Systems. He earned his medical degree at East Carolina University, completed residencies at Northwestern University and Carolinas Medical Center, and was awarded a fellowship in pediatric surgery at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

In his surgical practice, Hoover is known for his use of innovative devices and procedures. One example: He was the first surgeon in the country to use magnets to correct the congenital absence of a portion of the esophagus. As a physician leader, he brings that same spirit of innovation to improving operational processes, patient satisfaction and efficiency.
