GREENSBORO, N.C. – SEPTEMBER 17, 2019 – Today Proficient Health, an information technology company specializing in the secure exchange of referrals and other protected healthcare information, announced it has added two new healthcare executives to its board of directors.

Elissa Langley of Triad HealthCare Network (THN) has joined the board, as has Karen Hohenstein, former CEO and cofounder of MD Interconnect, a firm that merged with Proficient Health earlier this summer.

Langley is vice president and chief operating officer for THN, a Cone Health, physician-led, accountable care organization serving more than 205,000 patients. She was instrumental in the initial development of THN and currently oversees its operations and payer contracts. She also leads THN’s participation in the Next Generation ACO Program, an initiative by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid to reduce costs while improving both quality of care and patient satisfaction.

Previously, Langley worked as a network manager and negotiator for several managed care plans, including Aetna and Humana, respectively. She was part of U.S. Healthcare’s expansion team in Atlanta, Georgia, that helped the plan achieve a membership of more than 100,000 during its first year of operation. She also was instrumental in the development of Cone Health’s insurance company, HealthTeam Advantage, a provider-sponsored Medicare Advantage Plan launched in 2016.

Langley is currently a member of the Policy Committee for the National Association of ACOs (NAACOs), a member of the Wolters Kluwer U.S. Clinical Effectiveness Advisory Board and a board member of Mental Health Greensboro. She holds a Master’s in healthcare administration from Duke University.

Hohenstein is an experienced healthcare consultant and recognized expert in strategic planning, physician relationships, payer/payee relationships and the development of both accountable care organizations and clinically integrated networks.

She has worked with hundreds of healthcare organizations around the country – from major academic medical centers to both urban and rural health systems and hospitals. She currently uses that expertise to support Proficient Health as a business development consultant.

Prior to co-founding MDI Interconnect, a firm specializing in mobile communication solutions for healthcare providers, Hohenstein was a managing director at Navigant Consulting. She helped launch the firm’s healthcare strategy practice. She also is a former director at Tiber Group.

Hohenstein holds an MBA in healthcare administration, strategy, organizational behavior from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
